Lion Tyse Savage finishes 7th in the 4A boys 200 meters

 AUSTIN – Brownwood Lion senior Tyse Savage concluded his athletic career with a seventh place finish in the 4A boys 200 meters at the UIL Track and Field State Championships Thursday night at the University of Texas’ Myers Stadium.

Savage, the runner-up from Region I-4A, was clocked at 21.7 in his final race as a Lion. Savage ran a 21.46 at regionals, one of three events – along with the 4×100 relay and 4×200 relay – he competed in at Lubbock.

Austen Diggs of La Grange captured the state championship in a time of 20.82 trailed by silver medalist Xavier Butler of Brazosport (20.9) and bronze medalist Brett Maya of Lindale (21.07).

Earlier Thursday, Lady Lion freshman Hannah Deen placed seventh in the 4A girls high jump (5-2) and Lion junior Ike Hall came in fifth in the 4A boys triple jump (47-6).

On Friday, the Bangs Dragons 4×100 relay runs at 5 p.m. and Guy Powell follows in the 2A boys 100 meters at 6:05 p.m.

Saturday’s Brown County schedule features May’s Amanda Harrell in the Class A girls discus at 9 a.m.; Blanket’s Levi Vazquez competes in the Class A boys long jump at 9 a.m.; Zephyr’s Ronni McClain takes part in the Class A girls pole vault at 11 a.m.; Harrell is back in action in the Class A girls shot put at 12:30 p.m.; the and May Tigers’ 4×400 boys relay wraps up the weekend action at 8:20 p.m.
