WINTERS – The playoff-bound Bangs Dragons wrapped up the regular season Monday afternoon with a 13-2 road victory over the Winter Blizzards.
Bangs (18-8-2, 8-4) scored three runs in the first inning, two in the second, one in the third, and seventh in the fifth inning to enforce the 10-run mercy rule.
The Dragons finished with 13 hits, drew nine walks and Winters committed three errors.
Offensive standouts included Weston Jundt, Guy Powell, Skylar Minshew, Kenny Cole, Brayden Fields and Hunter Crowell with two hits each, while Hunter Newton added one. Minshew, Cole and Newton finished with two RBIs apiece while Powell, Crowell, Nate Stoffer and Zack Ferguson each contributed one RBI.
On the mound, Cole, Ferguson and Kade Minshew combined on a one-hitter, allowing one earned run with five strikeouts and four walks.
Bangs will enter the playoffs as the No. 2 seed from District 7-2A and will face 8-2A third seed Stamford later this week in bi-district action. Games 1 and 2 are set for 4:30 p.m. Thursday in Sweetwater, with Game 3, if needed, at 10:30 a.m. Saturday in Sweetwater.
