LUBBOCK – The Brownwood Lady Lions improved four strokes on the second day of the Region I-4A girls tournament at Shadow Hills Golf Course and finished fifth as a team in the final standings.
The Lady Lions fired a 362 Tuesday after shooting a 366 Monday for a 728 composite score. Brownwood trailed Andrews (617), Canyon (651), Canyon Randall (651), and Seminole (681). The top three teams, and top three individual non on a qualifying team advance to the UIL Class 4A state golf tournament will take place May 15-16 at Legends Golf Course in Kingsland.
Leading the charge for District 6-4A runner-up Brownwood were Haylie Martindale with a 175 after an opening 90 and closing 85; River Jones with a 182 after a first-round 93 and second-round 89; London England with a 185 as she started with a 91 and finished with a 94; Tristyn Garcia with a 186 with rounds of 92 Monday and 94 Tuesday; and Riley Morton with a 210 after shooting a 104 and a 106.
The District 6-4A champion Brownwood Lions will compete in Region I-4A boys tournament at the same site Wednesday and Thursday.
