LUBBOCK – Brownwood High’s three Region I-4A tennis tournament entries took the court Wednesday, and one advanced to Thursday action.
Leading the charge was Peter Le in boys singles as he defeated Diego Perez of El Paso Bowie (6-1, 6-0) and Jeremy Ward of Wichita Falls (6-3, 7-5) before falling to Maddux Foster of Andrews (6-2, 6-2).
Le will face Borger’s Benjamin Madden at 8 a.m. Thursday in the third-place match and a possible playback to finish as the regional runner-up. Le would need to defeat Madden, and Foster would need to knock off Burkburnett’s Caden Coker in the championship to set up the playback.
The top two finishers advance to state in Austin April 25-26.
In boys doubles action, River Prado and Jacob Singleton opened with a victory over Jon Saenz and Luis Tarango of Fabens (6-3, 6-2), then fell to Landon Lowrey and Armando Moreno-Ortega of Burkburnett (6-3, 5-3 [retired]).
Brownwood’s girls doubles team of Emma Delgado and Raylei Hickey was downed by Yadira Sarinana and Nathaly Rodriguez of Monahans (6-2, 6-1).
