GRAHAM – The Brownwood Lions and Lady Lions will be sending 23 entrants to the area round following their efforts at the two-day District 6-4A track and field meet, which concluded Thursday at Newton Field.
In the final team standings, the Lions placed third with 10 area berths secured while the Lady Lions came in fourth and are advancing in 13 events. The Lions produced 108 points, which trailed only Stephenville (253) and Graham (130). Meanwhile, the Lady Lions generated 124 points which left them behind Stephenville (194), Graham (136) and Glen Rose (131).
The top four finishers in each varsity event earned a spot in the 5-4A/6-4A area meet at Abilene Wylie on April 21, and Hannah Deen led the charge by qualifying in five events – high jump, long jump, triple jump, 300-meter hurdles and as part of the 4×400 relay. For the Lions, Aaron Edmonds led with the way with four berths in the long jump, 200 meters and as part of the 4×100 and 4×200 relays. Meanwhile, Tyse Savage is moving on in three events – the 200 meters and the 4×100 and 4×200 relays.
The Lions collected four gold medals at district – the 4×100 relay of Morsello Hooker, Brayden Daub, Edmonds and Savage (43.83); the 4×200 relay of Hooker, Edmonds, Daub and Savage (1:30.93); Savage in the 200 meters (22.7); and Ike Hall in the boys triple jump (44-5.75).
For the Lady Lions, district titles were earned by the 4×400 relay of Kate Tindol, Sidney Windham, Deen and Braycee Lee (4:12.17), along with Windham in the 800 meters (2:26.24).
Moving on for the Lions as district runners-up were Jordyn Nickerson in the 100 meters (11.37) and Sam Kallman in the boys discus (128-80).
For the Lady Lions, silver medals were collected by Deen in the long jump (15-11.75), high jump (5-3) and 300-meter hurdles (48.99); Tindol in the 100 meters (12.75) and the 200 meters (27.0); Lee in the 200 meters (1:01.14); and Jaslin Jones in the discus (96-6).
Picking up a bronze medal for the Lions was Edmonds in the 200 meters (23.37), while advancing in fourth place were Jake Jetton in the 100 meters (11.42), Trent Loftin in the 110-meter hurdles (16.34), and Edmonds in the boys long jump (19-9).
Lady Lions finishing third included the 4×200 relay of Talia Clifton, Miranda Northcutt, Icess Hall and Kyleigh Caperton (1:53.27), and Deen in the girls triple jump (32-10). Area qualifying fourth-place efforts belonged to Hall in the 100 meters (13.4) and Haylee Adkins in the 1600 meters (6:03.74).
In JV action, the Lady Lions came in second as a team behind Stephenville, tallying 142 points to the Honeybees’ 189. The JV Lions were also second with 164 points, as Stephenville swept all four divisions with the Yellow Jackets garnering 255.5 points.
