The Brownwood Lions and Lady Lions will vie for district championships in Graham later this week as the two-day 6-4A track and field meet takes place at Newton Field at Graham High School.
Field events and the 3200 meters will be conducted Wednesday beginning at 10:30 a.m. and running preliminaries will follow at 4:30 p.m. On Thursday, running finals will commence at 10:30 a.m.
The schedule for Wednesday’s field events features boys long jump and girls shot put at 10:30 a.m.; all pole vaulters begin at 11:30 a.m.; girls long jump, boys shot put and boys high jump at noon; girls triple jump and girls discus at 1:30 p.m.; and boys discus, boys triple jump and girls high jump at 3 p.m.
Wednesday’s running preliminaries include the 100-meter hurdles and 110-meter hurdles at 4:30 p.m.; the 100 meters at 4:50 p.m.; the 400 meters at 5:10 p.m.; the 300-meter hurdles at 5:30 p.m.; and the 200 meters at 5:50 p.m.
Thursday’s running finals will take place in the following order – 4×100 relay, 800 meters, 100-meter hurdles, 110-meter hurdles, 100 meters, 4×200 meter relay, 400 meters, 300-meter hurdles, 200 meters, 1600 meters, 4×400 relay.
The top four finishers from each event will advance to the 5-4A/6-4A area meet at Abilene Wylie on Friday, April 21.
In their final action before the district track and field meet, the Lions finished fifth and the Lady Lions came in sixth place at the Stephenville Optimist Relays this past Thursday.
Leading the charge with first-place finishes for the Lions were Tyse Savage in the 200 meters (23.3) and Jordyn Nickerson in the long jump (21.7.5).
Coming in second were Aaron Edmonds in the long jump (21-2.75), the 4×100 relay of Nickerson, Jake Jetton, Edmonds and Savage (43.05), and the 4×200 relay of Edmonds, Nickerson, Jetton and Savage (1:32.21).
Placing third was Nickerson in the 100 meters (11.02), while Ike Hall was fourth in the triple jump (41-11.5)
For the Lady Lions, Braycee Lee won the 400 meters (1:02.76) while runners-up included Hannah Deen in the high jump (5-2) and Sidney Windham in the 800 meters.
Placing third were Deen in the 300-meter hurdles (51.51) and the 4×100 relay of Talia Clifton, Kyleigh Caperton, Icess Hall and Lee (52.75).
Finishing fourth were Kate Tindol in the 100 meters (13.09), Jaslin Jones in the shot put (33-2), and Deen in the triple jump (33-2.25).
Coming in fifth were Clifton in the 100-meter hurdles (17.41), Miranda Northcutt in the 300-meter hurdles (52.87), and the 4×400 relay of Tindol, Lee, Deen and Windham (4:23.26).
Sixth-place efforts were turned in by Caperton in the 100 meters (13.42), Windham in the 400 meters (1:06.03), and Deen in the long jump (16-7).
