Dennis Russell “Rusty” Hansen, 78, of May, Texas passed away March 10, 2023 after a lengthy battle with cancer. Born June 21, 1944 in Brownwood, Texas, Dennis travelled with his military family to several posts within the United States. At age 18, he enlisted in the United States Army, served two assignments in Viet Nam, and received recognition multiple times for exemplary service during his career. Upon retirement from the Army, he and his wife Cheryl chose to return to Brownwood and later build a home at Lake Brownwood.

“Rusty” was a devoted husband and a dedicated friend to many. He will always be remembered for his humor, quick wit, and, foremost, for his generosity and compassion toward others. He will be dearly missed.

Dennis is survived by his loving wife Cheryl J. Hansen, his mother Mary Ballew of Brownwood, TX; daughters Babette Jennings Radican of Las Vegas, NV and Angelia Ferrer of Frisco, TX; six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren; his brother Richard Hansen of Wasilla, AK, and sister Donna Schlegel of West River, MD.

A private burial will be held at a later date. Donations may be made in his memory to the Brownwood VFW or the Corinne T. Smith Animal Center.
