The Brownwood Police Department issued the following press release Wednesday:
On Tuesday, March 21, at approximately 11:55 p.m., first responders were dispatched to a reported accident at the intersection of 15th St and Ave D.
First responders arrived on scene and identified the two vehicles involved as well as the drivers and occupants. Both vehicles sustained heavy damage and injuries were observed.
The driver of one vehicle, 37-year-old Jeremy Robert Allcorn, of Coleman, stated to officers that he ran through a stop sign and struck another vehicle. Allcorn further informed officers that he had been drinking alcoholic beverages that evening, prior to the accident.
The second vehicle involved was identified along with the occupants who were all found to have sustained some type of injury requiring medical treatment at Hendricks Medical Center-Brownwood. The four occupants ranged in age from their mid-40s to a 5-year-old male. The injuries were reported to be serious but nonlife-threatening.
Allcorn submitted to a series of standardized field sobriety tests which he failed to perform to standard. Given the observations at the scene, physical evidence of intoxication and his admission of having consumed alcoholic beverages, Allcorn was charged with Driving While Intoxicated and Intoxication Assault with a Vehicle Causing Serious Bodily Injury. Allcorn was arrested and transported to the hospital ER where a blood sample was provided, then transported to the Brown County Jail without incident.
