In a back-and-forth encounter, the Brownwood Lions tallied the final two runs to defeat the Graham Steers, 3-2, Wednesday night at Morris Southall Field to remain undefeated in District 6-4A baseball action.
Trailing 2-1 in the bottom of the fourth inning, the Lions (13-4, 2-0) started the frame with a double by Owen Huntsinger, then Taylor Bessent reached on an error. An RBI sacrifice fly by Logan Posey plated Huntsinger with the tying run, while Campbell Gilmore’s RBI single up the middle brought home Bessent with the deciding run.
Brownwood opened a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning as Case Markham led off with a single and scored on David Turner’s one-out RBI double.
Graham pulled in front, 2-1, in the top of the third as Tate Loesch led off with a double and Nolan Casbeer followed with an RBI infield single. Later, Casbeer scored on a two-out wild pitch.
On the mound, Gavin Brandstetter worked 6.2 innings to earn the win, allowing two earned run on five hits with 15 strikeouts and four walks. Cole Miller recorded the final out to notch the save.
The Lions offense generated seven hits – two by Brandstetter and one each by Huntsinger, Turner, Gilmore, Markham, and Posey – to overcome 10 strikeouts.
Brownwood turns around and travels to Stephenville at 7 p.m. Thursday for another district contest.
