EARLY – The Texas Girls Coaches Association Class 3A No. 13 Early Lady Horns remained atop the District 8-3A standings with a 4-2 home victory over Brock Tuesday afternoon.
Teagan Lopez hit a walk-off two-run home run in the bottom of the ninth inning to lift Early (16-3-2, 3-0) to the victory. The frame began with a lead-off double by Jordan Simmons, then Lopez followed with the decisive blast.
Early took a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning as a two-out, two-RBI single by Simmons plated Aubrey Greaves, who singled, and Marissa Reedy, who reached on an error.
Brock drew even at 2 in the top of the fifth inning.
Lopez pitched 6.2 innings and gave up two runs on three hits with seven strikeouts. Grace LaRue worked 2.1 scoreless frames and yielded one hit.
Early’s eight-hit attack featured three from Lopez, two from Simmons, and one apiece from Greaves, LaRue and Brooklynn McCullough.
The Lady Horns next host Peaster at 1 p.m Thursday.
