The Brownwood Lady Lions jumped out to an early lead against Class 6A competition Tuesday night, but were unable to hang on as San Angelo Central emerged with a 3-1 victory at Lady Lion Field.
Brownwood (5-4) took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning as Jeniffer Romero reached on a one-out single, stole second base, advanced to third on a Chloe Walls ground out, and scored on Kyleigh Caperton’s RBI infield single to shortstop.
The Lady Lions mustered just one more hit off Central’s Alyssa Rodriguez after the first inning, which also belonged to Caperton. Brownwood struck out nine times and left three base runners stranded.
Brownwood pitcher Tynlea Wilson yielded three runs – but only one earned – on seven hits with three walks and a strikeout. The Lady Lions defense was plagued by five errors.
Central grabbed a 2-1 lead in the top of the fourth inning as Alexis Bakurza led off with a walk and Rodriguez followed with a single. Then, with one out, Addison Dickerson’s two-RBI line drive double to center field pushed Central ahead.
In the seventh, Central added an insurance run as Makenna McMillian reached on an error and eventually scored on a passed ball.
The Lady Lions’ Friday game at Brady has been canceled, so the next action for Brownwood will take place March 10 at the Graham tournament.
