The Early Police Department issued the following press release Tuesday afternoon:
On Feb. 13, officers observed a vehicle speeding on Garmon Drive headed south toward Zephyr. Officers stopped the vehicle in the 700 block of Garmon and called for a second unit due to movement in the vehicle making it a suspicious circumstance.
When officers made contact with the driver, Derek Lynn Cochran, they could smell a strong odor of marijuana coming from the vehicle. After a search of the vehicle officers located marijuana and a quantity of cocaine as well as prescription pills without a prescription and some drug paraphernalia. Officers were also notified that Cochran had two outstanding warrants from Brownwood.
Cochran was placed under arrest and taken to the Brown County Jail and charged with possession of controlled substance second degree felony, possession of dangerous drugs class A misdemeanor, possession of marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia, driving while license invalid and no license plate.

On Feb. 12, an officer was stopped at a red light when a vehicle came by, almost striking the patrol car. The officer then stopped the vehicle and interviewed the driver, Corry Alexander Jones. Jones failed a field sobriety test and was placed under arrest for DWI.
Officers obtained a search warrant for blood test and he was taken to Hendrick in Brownwood. Jones was then taken to the Brown County Jail where he was charged with DWI and expired registration.
