CHINA SPRING – The Brownwood Lady Lions rallied from a halftime deficit to remain undefeated in District 5-4A soccer action, picking up a 2-1 road win over the China Spring Lady Cougars Saturday morning.
In a game that was postponed from Tuesday due to winter weather, China Spring (10-5-2, 1-2) took a 1-0 halftime lead thanks to a 15-yard free kick from Tatum Baird. Brownwood (8-1-1, 2-0) escaped further trouble earlier in the first half when goalkeeper Noemi Ceniceros saved a penalty kick.
The Lady Lions were able to knot the score less that five minutes into the second half as Alma Bernal delivered a pass into Kennedi Johnson, whose shot was deflected, but Molly Oliver scored off a rebound to forge a 1-1 tie.
Then, with 25 minutes left in the contest, Johnson and Oliver were in a 2-on-1 situation against the China Spring defense, where Johnson opted the keep the ball and fired in the game-winning goal.
The Lady Lions will look to remain atop the district standings as they play their third straight league game away from home at Salado at 7 p.m. Tuesday.
