A unique fitness opportunity will be presenting itself to the women of Brown County, as Queen Fitness Studio is slated to open its doors Jan. 14-15 during its grand opening celebration.
Located at 1621 Coggin, next to Lifeguard EMS, Queen Fitness Studio is a women’s only fitness studio and gym brought to life by Jessica Blue, who moved to Brownwood 2 ½ years ago.
Blue shared the genesis regarding the decision to create an all-female workout facility in Brownwood.
“I’ve always done personal training and I moved here with a 3-week-old baby so I couldn’t go work out because I didn’t have any child care,” Blue said. “This idea started to develop. My husband and I switched off, he would work out then I would work out and it was kind of a pain. We bought these buildings, we own the (Lifeguard EMS) ambulance building and this one. For a while we didn’t know what we were going to do with this. About 8 or 9 months ago I said I wanted this building to be an all women’s gym. There are a lot of women that don’t want to work out in front of men. I talked to a wide range of women all across the board and that’s one of the reasons why women don’t buy gym memberships, or they buy them and they don’t go. That, and if they have small kids, a lot of them are stay-at-home moms and don’t know how they can get to the gym. So I’m happy to be at a stage in my life where I can offer this.”
The grand opening is scheduled for Jan. 14-15 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. each day. Free classes, the opportunity to meet the staff and a ribbon cutting are among the events slated for the grand opening.
Fitness classes that Queen Fitness Studio will offer include Zumba, Yoga, HITT (High Intensity Interval Training), Strong, and Hype. The facility also includes seven cardio machines, a squat rack, dumb bells, bar bells, cable machines, a message therapist and a flexologist with tables. The facility also features two remodeled restrooms and a recently added shower.
“I don’t want women thinking they have to walk in here with the perfect body,” Blue said. “We all start somewhere and we don’t come in cookie cutter sizes. I know there is a deep insecurity with some women when it comes to working out and I want this to be someplace to feel comfortable. No one is judging and all ages are welcome.”
Normal business hours will be Monday, Wednesday, and Friday from 5 a.m. to 9 p.m.; Tuesday and Thursday from 7 a.m. to 9 p.m.; and Saturday from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Child care is available to those who attend.
Queen Fitness Studio has four tier levels of monthly memberships available, beginning at $109. The bronze package features all access to cardio machines and weights; the silver package includes unlimited group fitness classes plus access to all the weights and cardio machines; the gold package includes unlimited group fitness classes plus access to all the weights and cardio machines, along with three personal training sessions; and the platinum plan, at $179, consists of unlimited group fitness classes plus access to all the weights and cardio machines, three personal training sessions, as well as child care.
“Child care hours are going to be related to when classes go on – 7 a.m. to noon, then from noon to 4 p.m. we break for lower traffic in the gym which is when most of the stretch and massage sessions will go on,” Blue said. “Child care will open back up from 4 to 8 p.m. and classes will start back up then as well.”
The ‘Kid Crib’ is located in the front of the building, along with a reception area, welcome center, merchandise area, coffee bar, cooler, and seating area. [Additional photos included with story]
“My hope for this place is it becomes somewhere they look forward to going, not another job to do or task on the list,” Blue said. “I wanted to create a fun, nice, clean environment and a sense of community. If you look forward to coming here and start meeting people, I think it’s going to be one of those places where you implement it into your schedule and it’s not a chore. You get to have me time and drop your kids off at reliable child care.”
