GOLDTHWAITE – The Brownwood Lady Lions were unable to the hand the Class 2A No. 14 Goldthwaite Lady Eagles their first loss as they dropped a 54-36 road decision Friday night.
A slow start plagued the Lady Lions (7-10) who trailed Goldthwaite (10-0) by a 19-3 count after one quarter, 34-18 at halftime, and 45-27 through three periods.
Brownwood shot 29 percent (13 of 45) from the floor, including 26 percent (6 of 23) from the three-point arc, and made all four of its free throw attempts. The Lady Lions committed 12 turnovers and recorded 12 steals, but grabbed just 14 rebounds.
Mady Pyle paced the Brownwood offense with 17 points trailed by Hannah Deen with eight, Talasia Green with four, Sidney Windham with three, and Icess Hall and Kassidy Wooten with two points apiece.
Abbey Patrick led Goldthwaite with 15 points and Logyn Rountree and Hope Hermesmeyer chipped in 10 points apiece.
The Lady Lions will be back in action at 6:30 p.m. Monday when they host Burnet.
