The Bangs Dragons earned 21 selections on the 5-2A Division I all-district football roster after placing third in the final league standings.
Leading the way was District Co-MVP Guy Powell, who rushed for 2,040 yards and 27 touchdowns, caught eight passes for 118 yards and three scores, and tallied 130 tackles with one for loss and two fumble recoveries.
Quarterback Kenny Cole was tabbed Newcomer of the Year as he completed 73 of 161 passes for 979 yards with 12 touchdowns and eight interceptions, while rushing for 471 yards and six scores and tallying 10 tackles on defense.
First-team offensive selections were linemen Isaiah Serrato and Donovan Ruiz, receiver Hunter Newton, and H-back Keygan Pitts. Serrato and Ruiz helped paved the way for an offense that averaged 30 points and 322 yards – 240 rushing and 82 passing – per game. Newton grabbed 12 receptions for 193 yards and two scores and rushed for 57 yards and a touchdown. Pitts finished with 145 yards and two touchdowns on the ground and a pair of catches totaling 49 yards.
Landing on the first-team defense were lineman Noah Pin, Pitts at linebacker, Powell at defensive back, and Skylar Minshew as utility player. Pinn finished with 15 tackles and a fumble recovery, Pitts logged 119 tackles with three for loss, and one fumble recovery, and Minshew recorded 28 tackles.
The second-team offense featured David Herrera and Brody Newton along the offensive line, Guy Funk at receiver and kicker Caedmon Tidwell. Funk led the Dragons with 20 catches for 210 yards and five touchdowns.
On the second-team defense from Bangs were linemen Brody Newton and Sergio Lopez, linebackers Ethan Ethridge and Nate Stoffer, Funk and Weston Jundt in the secondary, and Minshew as punter.
Newton tallied nine tackles with one for loss and one sack; Lopez logged 36 tackles with two for loss; Ethridge collected 81 tackles with one for loss and one interception; Stoffer finished with 115 tackles with four for loss, three interceptions and three fumble recoveries; Funk registered six tackles and two picks; and Jundt notched 28 tackles with one interception and one fumble recovery.
The rest of the all-district roster was not provided.
The Dragons, in head coach Kyle Maxfield’s fifth year, finished the season with a 7-5 overall record, 4-2 in district, and won a bi-district championship over Nocona, 61-21.
