The Howard Payne University men’s basketball team improved to 2-2 overall with an 80-73 victory over Austin College Tuesday evening in non-conference action.
Down 37-36 at the half, the Yellow Jackets shot 56.2% from the field and outscored the Roos 44-36 in the second half to take the game 80-73.
With four Yellow Jackets in double-digits, Harold Myart led with 13 points and three steals. Armonie Ramey followed with 12 points, seven rebounds, and four assists. Deshon Shorter and Tyler Poag each added 11 points.
Down by five with 11 minutes left in the game, the Jackets put together a 10-0 run to gain a 61-56 advantage with 8 minutes left. HPU held the lead the rest of the way out for the win.
Howard Payne forced 22 Austin College turnovers. 10 of 22 free-throw shooting by the Roos also proved to be a factor in the game.
The Roos were led by Tristan Dick with 17 points followed by Joshua Joe with 15 points.
Howard Payne is now 2-2 overall and Austin College stands at 2-3 on the year. The Jackets will play next this Sunday at Texas Lutheran in Seguin, Texas at 2:00 p.m.
