HAMILTON – The Brownwood Lady Lions split their first two games at the Hamilton basketball tournament Thursday, fighting off Llano for a victory prior to dropping a contest to tournament host Hamilton.
The Lady Lions held off Llano, 37-36, in Thursday’s tournament opener.
Brownwood led 12-1 after quarter, 20-14 at halftime and took a 29-21 advantage into the fourth period.
The Lady Lions shot 36 percent (15 of 42) from the field, 29 percent (4 of 11) from three-point land, and 27 percent (3 of 11) at the free throw line.
Brownwood finished with 11 turnovers, 15 rebounds, 14 steals and a pair of blocks.
Mady Pyle led the offense with a dozen points followed by Hannah Deen with nine, Icess Hall with five, Kimber Green with three, and two points each from Sidney Windham, Miranda Northcutt, Kassidy Wooten, and Talasia Green.
In a 58-37 loss to Hamilton, the Lady Lions trailed 9-8 after one quarter, 24-14 at halftime, and 38-23 through three frames.
Brownwood shot 26 percent (13 of 49) from the floor, 20 percent (5 of 24) on three-pointers, and 60 percent (6 of 10) at the free throw line.
The Lady Lions coughed up the ball 14 times, tallied 23 rebounds, recorded eight steals and dished out three assists.
Pyle again paced the Lady Lions with 13 points trailed by 10 from Green, six from Wooten, four from Northcutt, and two each from Deen and Green.
Brownwood (2-3) will face McGregor at 12:30 p.m. Friday in its only game of the day.
