EASTLAND – The Brownwood Lady Lions tipped off their 14th season under head coach Heather Hohertz Tuesday night, as they dropped a 47-33 road contest to the Class 3A Eastland Lady Mavs.
Returning just one starter from last year’s 20-14 and relying on multiple freshmen and sophomores this season, the Lady Lions led 10-4 after one quarter and 20-17 at halftime, but fell behind 31-29 after three quarters and were outscored 16-4 over the last eight minutes.
The Lady Lions shot 31 percent (14 of 45) from the floor, 16 percent (4 of 24) from three-point land, and 56 percent (9 of 16) at the free throw line. Brownwood also turned the ball over 19 times, recorded 25 rebounds, dished out seven assists and notched 12 steals.
Mady Pyle, the returning starter from last year, led the Lady Lions with eight points trailed by Hannah Deen with six, Icess Hall with five, Kimber Green and Miranda Northcutt with four each, and Sidney Windham and Kassidy Wooten with three points apiece.
Brownwood (0-1) is back in action at 12:30 p.m. Saturday at Merkel.
