LUBBOCK – Early Lady Horn senior Madison Torrez placed 11th overall at the Region I-3A cross country meet at Mae Simmons Park in Lubbock to qualify for the UIL Class 3A cross country state championships.
Torrez was clocked at 13:00.2 Tuesady, less than 40 seconds behind regional champion Jaycee Lyons (12:20.7) of Holliday. The top four teams and top 10 individuals not on one of those teams advanced to state, which will be ran Saturday, Nov. 5 at Old Settlers Park in Round Rock.
Torrez ranked sixth among individuals to qualify, while the four teams moving on are Holliday (84 points), Dalhart (109), Jim Ned (133), and Canadian (174).
Torrez was the only Lady Horn in the field, while Early Longhorn senior Aaron Bass was clocked at 19:15.7 to finish 94th in the boys draw.
