The Brownwood Lions returned to the Class 4A Division I Top 10 in the Dave Campbell’s Football rankings ahead of their Week 10 and regular season finale at Andrews Friday night.
The Lions (7-2, 3-0) were ranked by DCTF earlier this season, but slipped out of the poll after their 42-21 loss at reigning state champion Stephenville. Brownwood is the lone team from Region I to appear in this week’s rankings.
Brownwood, which has already secured at least a share of its first district championship since 2010, will look to claim the outright District 2-4A Division I crown at 7 p.m. Friday at Andrews (5-3, 1-1). The Lions carry a three-game win streak into the contest, having outscored their foes 153-41 during the span.
The rest of the DCTF 4A Division I Top 10 features No. 1 China Spring (8-1), No. 2 Stephenville (7-1), No. 3 Corpus Christi Calallen (9-0), No. 4 Boerne (8-0), No. 5 Anna (8-0), No. 6 Celina (7-1), No. 7 Lumberton (7-1), No. 8 Kilgore (7-2), and No. 9 Tyler Chapel Hill (6-2).
Brownwood also appeared at No. 10 in the Padilla Poll Class 4A Division I rankings on Monday. The only other Region I team ranked in that poll was No. 9 Decatur (5-3), which the Lions hosted in the first scrimmage of the pre-season.
The Lions moved up from No. 12 into a tie for the 10th spot with Kilgore in this week’s Harris Ratings Weekly. Brownwood appeared as high as No. 5 in the state earlier in this poll, again prior to the Stephenville game. The Harris service also listed the Lions as 14-poiint favorites over Andrews Friday night.
