BPDpatchSmallBrownwood Police Chief Mike Corley released crime statistics from the police department for the month of June along with year-to-date numbers for 2012 and 2013.

Corley releases Brownwood Police Department crime statistics on a monthly basis as a program to have a department that is more transparent to the public.  Corley stated that he also looks at these numbers to see where the department needs to focus.

Corley said that there were 111 reported crimes in June which is decreased from the previous month.  Of these crimes, 29.7% were cleared either by arrest or after further investigation.  Crimes remained in relatively the same numbers, regardless the type of crime, from May to June.

Traffic accidents for June were decreased by 3 cases or 6.8% incidents when compared to the month of May.  There was 1 less incident of driving while intoxicated this month than in the previous month.

Year-to-date, 2013 appears to be continuing a decreasing trend of crimes across the board than 2012, with 17.9% less total crimes.  Of those crimes 41% were cleared as compared to 27.4% for the same timeframe during the previous year.  Of note, larceny theft was down by 131 cases, or 32.5%, as compared to the same timeframe during 2012.

See below for the May 2013 and June 2013 crime statistics along with tables of year-to-date 2012 and 2013 statistics of the same time period for comparison.  The number reported refers to crimes that were assigned a case number and responded to by police.  The number cleared refers to how many cases were closed either by an arrest or after further investigation.
