On Saturday, September 24, the Howard Payne University choir hosted several schools from University Interscholastic League (UIL) Regions 6 and 7 in a “last look” workshop, focused on the music from the TMEA All-State Small School Choir audition process.
High schools represented included Brownwood, Burkburnett, Iowa Park, Mineral Wells, Stephenville and Sweetwater, along with a few homeschool students from within these regions.
There were more than 100 students in attendance, and the clinic was administered by Dr. Christopher Rosborough, HPU’s director of choral activities and chair of the Department of Music. Area choir directors ran specialized sessions focusing on the music for the first round of All-State auditions, best practices for sight-reading, and building vocal excellence.
“This is the sixth year that HPU has hosted this event,” said Dr. Rosborough. “It’s always a joy to see the product of the choral programs in our area and all the fine work of their respective directors.”
