Editha Thomason, age 87 of Brownwood, passed away peacefully on Friday, September 30, 2022. Although she will be missed, we rejoice that she is now free from the burdens and pain of this life.
A graveside funeral service will be held at 2:00 PM, Thursday, October 6, 2022, in the Rocky Creek Cemetery with Mike Bannister officiating, under the direction of Heartland Funeral Home.
Editha Joy Wilks was born to Vane and Loma Smith Wilks on June 4, 1935, in Lampasas. During her childhood, the family relocated to Galveston where they lived for a number of years. She often talked about her fondness of the ocean and beaches in the Galveston area. Life eventually found the family in Brownwood, where Editha graduated from Brownwood High School in 1953. She married Wade Thomason on November 20, 1954, and the couple began a lifelong farming and ranching enterprise in Brown County. They raised three children; Donna, Terry, and Royce and although she spent the majority of her adult life carrying meals to the men working in the field and keeping meticulous books for their farming business, Editha was so much more than a homemaker. She was a very talented artist and writer, drawing charming pictures and penning beautiful poetry. She was an amazing quilter, putting in hours of work on tightly stitched squares and creating stunning gifts for other young families with the quilting group at church. Editha was an active member of the Daughters of the Republic of Texas for many years and loved to read and research the history of her family and the state of Texas.
Editha was a member of Austin Avenue Church of Christ for nearly 50 years, and she worked to be a great example for her family and other Christians. She was a loving daughter and sister, a devoted wife and mother, and a doting grandmother and great-grandmother. She will be dearly missed.
Editha is survived by her daughter Donna Willson of Brownwood and two sons, Terry Thomason and wife Lisa and Royce Thomason and wife Cindy both of Bangs; sisters, Koleta Hunter of Casper, Wyoming and Diana Hankins of Arlington, Texas; brothers, Ron Wilks of the Phillipines and Jean Wilks of Loveland, Colorado; grandchildren, Michael Willson and wife Amber, Glynn “Wade” Willson and wife Nina, Josh Thomason and wife Patty, Emily Hill and husband Russell, and Justin Thomason and wife Holly; great-grandchildren Grayson, Avery, and Taylor Willson; Case and Emma Thomason; Seth and Evan Hill; Hannah Jo Thomason; sister-in-law, Barbara Tongate, and numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews.
