Funeral services for Sam Newman, age 82, of Grosvenor, will be held at 3:00 PM, Thursday, September 22, 2022, in the Heartland Funeral Home Chapel. Burial with military honors will follow in Eastlawn Memorial Park. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Wednesday evening from 6:00 until 8:00 PM.
Mr. Newman died on Saturday, September 17, 2022, at his home.
Sam Edward Newman was born on April 1, 1940, in Barnhart, Texas to Donovan Sam Newman and Eva Rebecca (Stubblefield) Newman. He graduated from Early High School in 1958. Sam joined the United States Air Force in 1961 and went on to serve for the next eight years as a B-52 mechanic, with duty stations in Texas, Alaska, and California. Following his military service, Sam went to work at 3M Brownwood. He retired after 31 years at 3M. He enjoyed farming and ranching, his livestock, old westerns, his big blue tractor, he loved airplanes and flying, and spending time with his kids, grandkids, and great grandchildren.
Sam is survived by his wife Evelyn of Grosvenor; three sons, Sammy Newman of Brady, Bryan Phillip Newman, of Brownwood, Bryan Beane and wife Danna of Arlington; a daughter, Rebecca Fritz and husband Mark of Granbury; eight grandchildren, Brandon Newman, Charlie Newman, Alex Newman, Taylor Rose and her husband Travis, Ethan Beane, Emily Beane, Reagan Wood and husband Kanton and Dalton Kennington; four great-grandchildren, Thaddius Rose, Theodore Rose, Weston Wood and Waverly Wood; a brother, Jim Newman and wife Claire, and numerous nieces, nephews, and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers, Robert, Charles, and Thomas Newman, two sisters, Joy and Donna Jean, in-laws, Ben Lee Kinney and wife Edith, and his first wife, Patricia Mesic Newman in 1972.
