Rita Thomas

Rita Merle Lloyd Thomas went peacefully to be with her Lord on Saturday, September 17, 2022, at the age of 93.  Visitation will be Tuesday evening from 5-7 p.m. at Heritage/Davis Morris Funeral Home in Brownwood.  A funeral will be held on Wednesday at 10:00 am at First Baptist Church in Blanket with interment at the Blanket Cemetery.

Rita was born to William Harmon “Bud” and Alta Bayless Lloyd in Comanche, Texas on April 10, 1929.  Rita married Robert “Bobby” Thomas on October 15, 1948, after attending business college in Dallas.  She worked at Dudley Brothers in Comanche prior to moving with Bobby to Fort Worth where she was a housewife and mother.  After returning to Blanket, Rita worked at Blanket State Bank and then Landmark Insurance Company in Brownwood.  She was an active member of First Baptist Church in Blanket.

Rita was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend to many.  She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Bobby, brothers Nordell and Garland Lloyd and sister Sue Lippe.

She is survived by daughter and son-in law Beverly and Bing Flanary of Mineola; daughter Barbara Newsom of Pflugerville; son and daughter-in-law Robert “Bill” and Dessa Thomas of Zephyr; sister Judy McGinnis of Blanket; sister-in-law Wanda Lloyd of Comanche; grandchildren Michael Love, Shayla Fowler, Barry Thomas, Christi Wilks, April Palmer, Jason Stubblefield, Mandy Yandell, Josh Stubblefield, and Bowdy Thomas; 20 great-grandchildren; 2 great-great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

Special thanks to the staff of CARE Nursing Home and the Chatfield Assisted Living.

Memorials may be made to the First Baptist Church of Blanket or to a charity of your choice.
