Early volleyball earns bracket consolation title at Bronte tournament

BRONTE – The Eary Lady Horns finished as white bracket consolation champions at the Bronte volleyball tournament over the weekend, where they won three of their six matches.

The Lady Horns on Saturday began the day with a 17-25, 25-20, 25-15 loss to Coahoma, but bounced back with wins over Brady, 25-19, 25-16, and Reagan County, 25-14, 25-18.

Tournament action began for Early Friday with a loss to Vernon Northside, 25-15, 25-7, a victory over Reagan County, 25-17, 25-23, and another setback against Wink, 25-16, 25-9.

In their championship-clinching victory over Reagan County Saturday, the Lady Horns received five kills from Dakota Barksdale and one apiece from Madison Torrez, Averey Horton, Gabby Leal and Taylor Waldorf.

Trinity Torrez dished out eight assists while Matty Boswell served a pair of aces.

Defensively, Boswell and Jenna Hataway each logged three digs, while Madison Torrez and Saydi Vazquez chipped in one apiece.

Barksdale finished with two blocks.

In Saturday’s earlier victory over Brady, Barksdale collected four kills followed by Stoney Laughlin with two and Horton, Boswell, Leal and Trinity Torrez with one each.

Boswell served two aces while Trinity Torrez produced nine assists.

On the defensive end, both Hataway and Boswell registered three digs.

Early (6-9) will welcome Hawley at 6 p.m. Tuesday for a non-district match.
