JOHNSON CITY – The Early Longhorns and Lady Horns cross country teams competed at the Eagle Nation Six Mile Relay this past Friday. This was not a typical cross country race where boys race three miles, and the girls race two miles. Instead, each runner raced 1.5 miles.
The varsity girls team of junior Preslee Richmond, freshman Brooke Miller, senior Madison Torrez, and junior Emma Stegemoller finished 10th out of 20 relay teams with an overall time of 44 minutes and 8 seconds. The only other 3A-Region 1 school to finish better was Llano who finished 8th. Running as individuals for the Lady Horns were senior Trinity Torrez who finished fifth and sophomore Gyselle Cruz who finished 14th. Sophomore Steely Fielder was injured during the race and did not finish.
Running well for the boys was sophomore Jayden Garcia who finished second in the JV division. In the varsity boys division, senior Aaron Bass finished first among individual runners. Junior Will Prochaska finished third in the individual group followed closely by junior Calvin Clubb who finished fourth.
The Horns and Lady Horns will race next at the Big Country Festival in Abilene on Saturday, Sept. 3.
