The Brownwood High tennis team posted a 1-1 record in their first two home matches of the season Saturday, defeating Graham by an 11-8 count before falling to Wall, 17-2.
In the victory over Graham, the Lions set the tone by sweeping all three doubles matches, with victories belonging to the No. 1 team of Peter Le and River Prado (4-0, 4-1 over Joshua Gipson and John Upton), the No. 2 duo of Taevion Nickerson and Tyler Mitchell (4-1, 4-2 over Hayden Burrows and Scott Grimes), and the No. 3 tandem of Eric Smith and Wesley Goodrich (4-1, 4-2 over Denys Klymenko and Jayden Noyola).
The Lady Lions added one doubles win by the No. 3 team of Ihana Figueroa and Jazzmyn Sanchez (4-1, 1-4, 10-7 over Pamela Mendoza and Olivia Buckley).
In the singles draw for the Lions, wins were claimed by No. 1 Le (4-2, 1-4, 10-7 over Gipson), No. 2 Prado (4-2, 4-2 over Upton), No. 3 Mitchell (1-4, 4-0, 11-9 over Burrows), No. 4 Nickerson (4-2, 0-4, 12-10 over Lucas Qualls), and No. 6 Smith (4-2, 4-1 over Noyola).
No. 4 Madeleine Goff (3-5, 4-1, 10-3 over Sydney Jensen) and No. 6 Anna Daniel (4-2, 5-3 over Desire Partida) tacked on victories in girls singles competition.
In other matches that did not count toward the team totals, Jacob Singleton (4-1, 4-1 over Barron Burrows) and Thomas Stewardson (4-2, 4-5[13], 10-4 over Klymenko) picked up boys singles wins, while Figueroa (4-1, 4-1 over Mendoza) chipped in a girls singles victory.
Against Wall, the only victories were earned by the No. 1 boys doubles team of Le and Prado (1-6, 6-3, 10-6 over Bryson Hirt and Jack Duncan) and Prado in the No. 2 boys singles position (6-2, 4-6, 10-8 over Hirt).
The Lions and Lady Lions (5-2) will return to action Saturday, Aug. 27 against Iowa Park in Mineral Wells.
