Barbara Worley passed peacefully on August 15, 2022, at the age of 85, in Brownwood, Texas, her home for more than 40 years. She was the most gracious mother, grandmother, sister, and friend.

Barbara was the second oldest of five, born in Lebanon, Missouri on July 4th, 1937, and lovingly referred to as our little firecracker for her fun, outgoing personality, and charm. Her siblings were her dearest, most treasured relationships. High school sweethearts, she married Jerry Worley, and together they had three children: Susan, Lynn, and Tom. Eventually Jerry and Barbara moved to their forever home in Brookesmith, Texas.

She was the hardest worker, often working an array of multiple jobs throughout her life, and even still as her family was winding down the day exhausted, she would still be on the back porch sweeping or doing dishes. Her proudest professional work was that of a nurse for more than 65 years. She worked at Brownwood Regional Medical Center for several of those years, and then doing home health traveling many country roads taking care of others. Even as her failing mind was confusing time in her most recent years she would often revert back to being a nurse and working shifts tending to patients.

Barbara never met a stranger. She always had a big smile, stories to tell, and a listening ear. Grocery store trips used to take hours because she would find friends on every isle. She was always a refuge to her family with generous open arms, hospitality, and comfort. She would greet you on her back porch as you pulled up in the drive, and she would send you off from the same spot with a wave. She was the glue and heart of her family, and will be missed dearly.

She is survived by her children: Susan, Lynn, and Tom (Linda), grandchildren: Stephanie, Barbie (Reagan), Courtney (David), and Jeff, and great grandchildren: Alec, Joslyn, London, Oliver, and Addie, including many adoring friendships.

She will be honored in a memorial service on Saturday, August 20, 2022 at Heritage Funeral Home Davis-Morris Chapel in Brownwood, Texas at 1:00 PM. Arrangements are entrusted to Heritage Funeral Home of Brownwood.
