Brownwood tennis team upended by state power Fredericksburg

MASON – After opening the season Wednesday with a pair of victories over Big Spring and Sweetwater, the Brownwood High tennis team ran into perennial state powerhouse Fredericksburg on Thursday and dropped a 17-2 decision.

Notching the victories for Brownwood were Peter Le in No. 1 boys singles (6-0, 6-2 over Reid Nevins), and River Prado in No. 2 boys singles (6-2, 6-4 over Dylan Sifford).

Also competing in singles action for the Lions were No. 3 Tyler Mitchell (6-1, 6-0 loss to Logan Sifford), No. 4 Wesley Goodrich (6-0, 6-0 loss to Evan Majors), No. 5 Taevion Nickerson (6-1, 6-4 loss to Barrett Greene), and No. 6 Eric Smith (6-2, 6-4 loss to Vincent Hickey).

Competing in boys doubles action were No. 1 Le and Prado (6-4, 4-6, 10-5 loss to Sifford and Sifford), No. 2 Nickerson and Mitchell (6-0, 6-2 over Stephens and Nevins), and No. 3 Goodrich and Smith (6-2, 6-1 loss to Greene and Hickey).

For the Lady Lions, single competitors included No. 1 Emma Delgado (6-0, 6-0 loss to Bella Rodriguez), No. 2 Raylei Hickey (6-1, 6-0 loss to Chloe Wanck), No. 3 Claire Meinecke (6-4, 6-0 loss to Anna Terry), No. 4 Madeleine Goff (6-2, 6-1 loss to Abby-Kate Spence), No. 5 Lyric Shaw (6-0, 6-1 loss to Ella Stehling) and No. 6 Ashlyn Bundick (6-2, 6-0 loss to Gabriella Sifford).

In doubles action for the Lady Lions, duos included No. 1 Delgado and Goff (6-2, 6-1 loss to Rodriguez and Terry), No. 2 Hickey and Meinecke (6-0, 6-0 loss to Wanke and Stehling), and No. 3 Bundick and Shaw (6-1, 6-2 loss to Spence and Sifford).

The mixed doubles match paired Brownwood’s Trine Baugh and Ihani Figueroa against Majors and Constantine (6-1, 6-3 loss).

The Lions and Lady Lions (2-1) return to action on Aug. 16 against Snyder and Lubbock All Saints in Snyder.
