In the August sales tax allocations released by the Texas Comptroller’s Office, the City of Bangs had the largest percentage increase among the three cities in Brown County. The City of Brownwood had a small increase over August of last year. The City of Early suffered a large decrease, but hey we can explain! Sales tax allocations released in August represent retail sales in June 2022. Details below.
BANGS
The City of Bangs received $23,176 in August, an increase of 10.55% over August 2021. Fiscal year-to-date (October 2021 through September 2022) Bangs has received $210,953, up 10.59% over FY 2020-21.
The Bangs Municipal Development District received $3,155, an increase of 9.09% over August 2021. Fiscal year-to-date the Bangs MDD has received $30,869, up 9.28% over FY 2020-21.
BROWNWOOD
The City of Brownwood received $660,151, an increase of 1.60% over August 2021. Fiscal year-to-date the City has received $6,179,792, up 4.98% over FY 2020-21.
The Brownwood Municipal Development District received $209,100 in August, an increase of 0.49% over August 2021. Fiscal year-to-date the Brownwood MDD has received $2,008,726, up 5.76% over FY 2020-21.
EARLY
The last few years Early has received an extra-large sales tax allocation in August, which resulted from an audit of industrial sales taxes from previous years. That extra allocation has ended now, which produces an apparent large decrease in sales taxes this month, but does not represent normal retail sales.
The City of Early received $225,450 in August a decrease of 81.26% from August 2021. Fiscal year-to-date Early has received $2,164,273, a decrease of 13.87%
The Early Municipal Development District received $73,086 in August, a decrease of 73.90% from August 2021. Fiscal year-to-date the Early MDD has received $708,981, an increase of 0.51%, even with the loss of the extra sales tax.
