Brownwood’s Sir Bubba Jones and Goldthwaite’s Walt Thompson captured West Texas Junior Champions Tour Championships Friday as the two-day tournament concluded at The Hideout at Lake Brownwood.
In the boys 15-18 division, Jones fired a 147 with rounds of 73 and 74 for a two-shot victory over San Angelo’s Colin Leonard (74-75=149). Also competing were Comanche’s Ace Jones (85-70=164), who came in fifth, while Sidney’s Grant Drummond (87-82=169) tied for seventh place.
The boys 13-14 division featured Thompson defeating Wall’s Maxwell Wymore in a one-hole playoff for the title. Thompson (75-75=150) rallied from two shots down after the first round to overtake Wymore (73-77=150). Other locals competing were Brownwood’s Peyton Sharp (88-88=176), who placed ninth, and Goldthwaite’s Lane Gray (91-92=183) came in 10th place.
In other weekend draws, San Angelo’s Ryann Honea (73-74=147) won the girls 15-18 division. Other locals in the field included Goldthwaite’s Halley Faris (88-84=172), who placed fifth; Brownwood’s Haylie Martindale (97-87=184), who came in seventh; and Brownwood’s River Jones (90-98=188), who tied for eighth place.
Ingram’s Tierce Zipp won a two-hole layoff over Colorado City’s Kaylynn Epperson to determine the girls 13-14 champion and runner-up. Both carded 36-hole totals of 176.
In the nine-hole, two-round 10-12 boys division, Lampasas’ Layton Eckermann (38-43=81) was the champion. Brownwood’s Sheriff Jones (49-50=99) finished fifth and Goldthwaite’s Drew Bristol (52-51=103) came in sixth.
San Angelo’s Austyn Watts (53-42=95) win the girls 10-12 title.
In 8-9 coed action, Abilene’s Aykin Salas (43-39=82) finished at the top of the leaderboard, while Brownwood’s Leander Martin (48-51=99) came in sixth.
And in 6-7 coed action, the top spot belonged to San Angelo’s Kyson Londerholm (40-43=83).
