The Brownwood Municipal Development District Board of Directors met Tuesday and approved the purchase of portable restroom trailer to be used for downtown events, among other city related activities.

The trailer will feature four toilets for women, three toilets for men and three urinals for men. The cost of the trailer is $74,744.

“The City and BMDD have been exploring some ideas to provide some public restrooms downtown during events and special activities,” said BMDD Executive Director Ray Tipton. “There’s not really any feasible real estate for conversion for that, so the BMDD Board approved purchasing a restroom trailer for downtown that can be set up for special events. It’ll help make the events better downtown for the public and it will also take a little bit of the pressure off the businesses for people coming in and using the restroom and disrupting their business during larger events especially. We think it will be a big asset toward making downtown better and helping out with the events.”

In another BMDD news and notes:

Tipton anticipates both the Brownwood Multipurpose Event Center Project, as well as the construction of the Home 2 Suites hotel behind Studebaker’s, to be completed in October or November 2023

Construction is expected to begin in the near future on the 26-plus acres of land purchased by Trafalgar Homes for 110 housing units near the current site of Indian Creek Townhomes. A swimming pool will also be constructed that can be used by tenants of both locations.

T.J Maxx and Boot Barn, to be located in Commerce Square, both have their demo permits and the City has received plans for both stores, according to Tipton, who expects both businesses to be open in the the first quarter of 2023.

Buffalo Wild Wings, also located at Commerce Square, is currently remodeling and will have “inconsistent hours” until the work is complete, Tipton said.

Freddy’s Frozen Custard and Steakburgers, to be located at the former site of Shipley Donuts, is working on its construction plan and is currently undecided on a remodel or demolition, Tipton said.
