The Brownwood Art Association will host their First Thursday Event featuring local photographer Roger Levesque, on Thursday, May 2nd. The event will be held from 5:00 to 8:00 PM at the Art Center at 215 Fisk Avenue in Brownwood. The public is invited to attend this event, which is free of charge.
Roger will have a selection of his favorite images on view and will be demonstrating his photographic workflow in creating fine art photographic images.
“Digital fine art photography and the techniques of using a computer as a darkroom are the most exciting things to come along in photography, for me, since I first picked up a Brownie Camera over 60 years ago,” Levesque said.
Roger graduated from Arizona State University with a B.A. in Industrial Management. Served in the U.S. Air Force, and spent 23 years in management with the Army and Air Force Exchange Service. Photography became his avocation throughout the years, and his passion for photography has never wavered.
His interest and study has evolved towards digital photography and his “darkroom” is now a computer. “I continue to be fascinated with manipulating images and watching art emerge from this medium and it grows with each new subject I photograph. I am convinced that the computer opens up infinite possibilities for an artist to create works of art,” he said.
His photographs have been displayed in various venues in Texas and throughout the U.S. in national art competitions and held in private collections. He is a past President of the Brownwood Art Association and past Chair of the Arts Council of Brownwood. He is a past member of the Professional Photographers Association of America and the Professional Photographer Guild of Austin, Texas. Roger was inducted into the Hall of Fame of the International Wedding and Event Videographer Association in 2003. He was selected as “Artist of the Year” in 2009 for the Brownwood Art Association. Currently, he is actively involved in promoting the visual arts in our community and serves on the committee for the Stars of Texas Juried Art Exhibit.
