As you enjoy your July 4th holiday weekend, note that some fireworks may flash from the clouds on Friday and Saturday afternoons. Thanks to plenty of heat and the addition of some tropical moisture into the area, afternoon showers and thunderstorms will affect some, but not all, of the Brown County area.
According to KOXE meteorologist Randy Turner, expect a few showers to pop up Friday afternoon but the majority on Saturday afternoon.
“It’s a situation where some will get a drenching afternoon shower while the neighbor not far down the road doesn’t receive a drop of rain. My primary concerns for those who may be out on the lake or enjoying outdoor activities are lightning and brief gusty wind from the stronger showers,” said Turner, noting the primary time of day to expect the showers will be from 1:00 pm to 7:00 pm.
“Keep an eye to the sky. If you see lightning in the distance, or hear thunder, get indoors and allow time for the storm to pass,” Turner said, adding they will likely be slow moving.
As for temperatures this weekend, expect morning lows in the middle 70’s and afternoon highs in the upper 90’s.
“Brownwood’s normal high temperature in July is 96, normal low is 72, so we’ll be pretty close to those numbers this weekend. Looking ahead, next week is going to be hotter, and likely dry. Expect high temps at 100 on Monday and 102 or hotter each day next week,” Turner added.
