EARLY – VFW Post 3278 and Auxiliary hosted a Memorial Day ceremony Monday morning.
VFW Post 3278 Commander James Masters gave the keynote address, the VFW Auxiliary honored Gold Star families in attendance, and the National Anthem and TAPPS were performed by Dr. John Dunn.
“Memorial Day reminds us that without patriotism we would have no heroes to honor today,” Masters said. “The core of Memorial Day has always commemorated with the universal understanding of no greater love than this could any man have than to lay down his life for his friends. Today we gather to remember and give thanks to fallen heroes from a truly grateful nation. America has always showed great pride in our nation’s fallen heroes and unending support for those Americans who continue to fight for freedom in many corners of the world.
Masters also recited the words of Oliver Wendell Holmes, associate justice of the Supreme Court from 1920-32, who called Memorial Day the most sacred holiday in the United States.
“We not ponder with sad thoughts the passing of our heroes, but rather ponder their legacy,” Masters said.
