The Brownwood Police Department issued the following press release Monday morning:
On Wednesday, April 6, 2022, at approximately 1:30 p.m. officer James Wells was dispatched to the area of Belle Plain and Lakeway St. regarding a suspicious person. The caller reported a male lying off the sidewalk in the area.
When Officer Wells arrived in the area, he observed the described male. Officer Wells contacted the male and identified him as 59-year-old Robert Scott Mead of May. Mead appeared ‘passed out’ and had a strong odor of an alcoholic beverage emitting from him. Mead was woken up and asked to stand but was unable to do so without almost falling. Mead was discovered to be heavily intoxicated.
Mead was arrested for public intoxication and, upon search, was found to be in possession of a loaded 38 caliber revolver and a small amount of marijuana.
Mead was transported to the Brown County Jail and charged with Public Intoxication, Unlawful Carrying of a Weapon, and Possession of Marijuana.
