The Brownwood Lions were unable to maintain the momentum from Friday’s 17-3 victory over District 6-4A rival Glen Rose, as they dropped a 13-3, five-inning decision to Graham Saturday afternoon at Morris Southall Field.
Trailing 4-3 after three innings, the Lions (5-11-1, 2-4) yielded four runs in the top of the fourth and five more in the fifth inning to allow Graham to end the contest early. Jordyn Nickerson bunted his way aboard and Jakob Hataway walked to start the bottom of the fifth for Brownwood, but the next three were retired in order as the run-rule was enforced.
Brownwood shaved Graham’s lead to 3-2 in the bottom of the second inning as Logan Posey and Cole Miller started the inning with consecutive walks. David Turner’s RBI ground out later scored Posey, while Miller came home on an RBI sacrifice fly by Tristan Salinas.
After Graham pushed the lead to 4-2 in the top of the third, the Lions fired back with their final run of the day. Hataway was hit by a pitch to start the frame and scored on an errant pick off throw to first base attempting to retire Gavin Brandstetter, who had reached base on a single.
On the mound for Brownwood, Turner worked four innings and allowed 12 runs on nine hits with one strikeout and two walks. Campbell Gilmore pitched one inning and yielded one run on one hit.
The Lions are back in action at 7 p.m. Tuesday against Lampasas (3-14, 2-4), then turn around and visit the Badgers in 6-4A action at 7 p.m. Friday.
