GRAHAM – The Brownwood Lady Lions came up on the short end against Snyder, 5-2, and Mineral Wells, 8-7, Saturday as they concluded play in the Graham softball tournament.
Trailing 6-2 after three innings against Mineral Wells, the Lady Lions surged in front, 7-6 in the top of the fourth, only for Mineral Walls to rally in the bottom of the frame with two runs ahead of the time limit.
Offensively, Brownwood generated nine hits – two by Mia Lopez, who homered, tripled and drove four; two and one RBI each from Chloe Walls, who tripled, Annie-Klein Allgood, who doubled, and Tynlea Wilson; and one hit from Jeniffer Ramero.
In the circle, Wilson worked four innings and yielded eight runs – one earned – on six hits with two strikeouts and one walk.
Defensively, the Lady Lions were plagued by six errors.
Against Snyder, the game was scoreless until the bottom of the fourth inning when Brownwood allowed the game’s first run. Snyder tacked on four more in the bottom of the fifth before the Lady Lions produced their two runs in the top of the sixth.
The Lady Lions collected five hits – two by Ramero and one each by Lopez, Allgood and Cecilia Rodriguez. Allgood and Rodriguez drove in Brownwood’s runs.
In the circle, Allgood pitched all six innings and gave up five earned runs on seven hits with five strikeouts and two walks.
Defensively, the Lady Lions logged two errors.
Brownwood (8-6) will be back in action at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday as it hosts Alvarado, then Abilene Cooper comes to town at 6:30 p.m. Friday in the pre-district finale.
