“We didn’t want this road game to be a trap game, but we took care of business,” Hohertz said. “I really like this team, I enjoy this team, I think they’re coming on when they need to come on. I challenged them since that blowout loss to Glen Rose and they’ve really responded. I’m liking what we’re doing right now, and we want to keep it going. We just have to continue to hit on all cylinders and play defense like we’re playing defense right now.”
The Lady Lions (20-12, 3-4), fresh off a 52-45 upset victory over Lampasas Friday at Warren Gym, held Gatesville (4-19, 0-6) scoreless in the first period en route to an 11-point cushion. At halftime, Brownwood boosted its lead to 32-9 and carried a 46-16 advantage into the fourth period.
Jaylen Savage led Brownwood with 16 points followed by Kynslee Walker with 14, Tessa Goodwin with 12, Mady Pyle with nine, Naysa Leach with six, Lexi Greer with three, and Lilly Brasher and Kimber Green with one point apiece.
Brownwood shot 41 percent (18 of 44) from the field, 45 percent (5 of 11) from three-point and, and 56 percent (21 of 37) at the free throw line. The Lady Lions also owned a 38-24 edge in rebounds, with 17 coming on the offensive end.
The Lady Lions are off until Tuesday when they host Stephenville in their home and regular season finale.
