Following a COVID-enforced hiatus a year ago, the Stars of Texas Juried Art Exhibit is making its triumphant return as entries were accepted between 5 and 8 p.m. Friday and 9 a.m. and noon Saturday.
“We are ecstatic because we’ve had what looks to be a record number of entries,” said Stars of Texas Committee Member Amanda Coers. “For the exhibit to have that year off due to COVID, and to see artists come back in a flood and bring their work is particularly special. It speaks to the power of art especially during the last two years and all those difficulties, the artists have been pouring their hearts and creating really beautiful pieces. We’ve had to make more room than ever before.”
The 283 entries were judged between 1 and 3 p.m. Saturday and 110 qualified for the Stars of Texas Juried Art Exhibit, which will be open to the public Feb. 6-19 at the Depot Civic Center with the following schedule: 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturdays, and 1 to 4 p.m. on Sundays. There is no admission fee to view the exhibit and the art will be for sale.
The remainder of the art submitted are eligible to be displayed during the same time span at the Brownwood Art Center as part of the Salon des Refusés.
“We’ve had an outstanding number of out-of-town artists, including universities from the Metroplex area have brought their students’ work and faculty’s work, so that’s exciting to see,” Coers said.” We have a high level of art in this show.”
