SALADO – The Brownwood Lady Lions soccer team opened play in the Salado tournament on Thursday with their first two losses of the season, dropping a 2-1 decision to Fredericksburg followed by a 3-2 defeat at the hands of Bay City.
Against Fredericksburg, Brownwood’s lone goal was scored by Molly Oliver on an assist from Watts Jones.
Versus Bay City, Kennedi Johnson scored in the first half for Brownwood while Oliver found the with an assist from Johnson in the second half.
“I told the girls we come to the Salado tournament because there is always quality teams here,” said Lady Lions second-year head coach Alexis Mosqueda. “To get better and prepare for our tough district with Stephenville we have to face adversity. They fought to the end of the game with heart and I was proud of them.”
The Lady Lions (4-2-1) will resume tournament action at 3 p.m. Friday against China Spring, then square off Saturday in a seeding game at a time to be determined.
