Following a one-year hiatus due to COVID, the Brown County Agrilife Extension Agency’s “Day in the Ring,” sponsored by Texas Farm Bureau, made its triumphant return to the Brown County Youth Fair Tuesday morning during the first day of livestock judging.
Chanda Moseley, with the Brown County branch of Texas Farm Bureau, spoke regarding the fourth incarnation of the event.
“These kids bless us with them coming out here and participating in this,” Moseley said. “It’s an honor, a pleasure, and a joy to be able to do this for them. The excitement and happiness on their faces make every bit of it worth while.”
The objective of A Day in the Ring is to give differently able youth an opportunity to participate in the Brown County Youth Fair. Exhibitors are partnered up with a 4-H or FFA member who help them present their lamb in the show ring. Each exhibitor received a T-shirt, lunch, rosette, and the opportunity to show.
“A Day in the Ring is something special that Texas Farm Bureau Insurance, the different counties around the state sponsor,” Moseley said. “We partnered up with Texas Agrilife Extension and Nick Gonzales actually came to us asking if we were interested in offering this opportunity to these kiddos in the school system who may or not have the opportunity to be around livestock on a regular basis.”
