KERRVILLE – Howard Payne University’s Amanda Turpin scored a game-high 19 points in a 65-62 Lady Jacket victory over the University of St. Thomas Sunday afternoon.
HPU’s Amanda Turpin was 5 of 10 from behind the arc and 7 of 15 from the field to lead the Lady Jackets with 19 points. It was freshman Elaina Buchanan that grabbed a game-high 13 rebounds for HPU as the Lady Jackets outrebounded St. Thomas 44-36 in the game.
Howard Payne used a strong defensive first half to secure a 34-23 advanatge at the half. The Lady Jacket defense held UST to 28.6% shooting from behind the arc and forced 24 turnovers in the game.
Following Turpin’s 19 points for HPU was Salina Ali with 16 points, eight rebounds, and four steals. Payge Grable added10 points. Chelsey Harris and Delaney Ingram each had four assists.
St. Thomas was led by Micayla Hamilton with 18 points and Jade Evans with seven rebounds.
Howard Payne is now 2-5 overall and St. Thomas stands at 2-3 on the year. The Lady Jackets will play next on Thursday, Dec. 2nd at the University of Texas at Dallas in Richardson, Texas. It will be a 5:30 pm start time.
