GLEN ROSE – The Brownwood Lady Lions rebounded from their first setback of the season and returned to the win column with a 35-31 victory over Class 3A Mildred in a neutral court contest Monday afternoon.
The Lady Lions (7-1) raced out to a 14-3 lead after one quarter, led 18-15 at halftime and took a 27-23 advantage into the fourth quarter.
Tessa Goodwin and Jaylen Savage paced Brownwood with 10 points apiece followed by six each from Mady Pyle and Kassidy Wooten, and three points from Alexa Arreola. Wooten contributed the Lady Lions’ two three-pointers in the contest.
“I was proud that we found a way to win a game where the outside shots weren’t falling,” said Lady Lions 13th-year head coach Heather Hohertz.
The loss was the first of the season for Mildred (3-1), which was coming off a 35-34 victory over Robinson on Friday. The Lady Eagles were led by Kasey Bonner with 14 points.
Brownwood is back in action at 2:15 p.m. Tuesday as it hosts Rogers in its final action before the Thanksgiving break.
