Graveside services for Jimmie Smith, 80, of Brownwood, formerly of Bertram, will be held at 2 PM on Sunday, December 23, in the Burnet Cemetery with Daniel Matheny officiating. Interment will follow under the direction of Netherton Funeral Home of Brownwood. No visitation has been scheduled.

Mr. Smith died on Thursday, December 20, 2012, at a local nursing facility in Brownwood.

Jimmie Martin Smith was born on May 1, 1932, in Austin Texas to Tom Smith and Martha Viola Riley Smith. He married Naomi Ann Crawford on February 11, 1966, in Austin Texas.  He worked as a Union Bricklayer and enjoyed working in his yard and gardening in his spare time. Not many people realized that Jimmie had a soft side to him, because that was reserved for his grandchildren, they were his world and he dearly loved them. Jimmie had lived in Brownwood since 2009, moving there from Bertram, and was a member of the 1st Baptist Church of Bertram.

He is survived by three children; Sandra Williams of Early, Don Moore and wife Leah, of Seguin, and Sue Butts and husband Eugene of Brownwood; and one brother, Joe Smith of Austin. He is also survived by seven grandchildren; Jim Twomey and wife Trina, Candy Matheny and husband Daniel, Melissa Hutson, Jessica Moore, Brooke Moore, Cheryl Haggerton and husband Thomas, and Jennifer Crawford and husband Roger; and numerous great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Tom and Martha Smith, one brother and seven sisters.

Family and friends are invited to sign the online guestbook at www.nerthertonfuneralhome.com
