Robert Clayburn “Bob” Day, 85, of San Angelo, Texas passed to the arms of his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Thursday, November 11, 2021 at 12:20 pm at his residence.
Services will be Sunday at 2:00 pm at Henderson Funeral Home Chapel in Coleman with Bro. Arron Mitchell officiating. The family will receive friends for visitation Sunday from 12 noon till 2:00 pm at Henderson Funeral Home. Interment will follow service at the Gouldbusk Cemetery with services under the care of Henderson Funeral Home staff.
Bob was born on October 13, 1936 in Gouldbusk, Texas to Elmer Coy and Quincy Eland Fields Day. He attended the Baptist Church and was baptized June 13, 1948. On September 4, 1954 he married the love of his life Ethel Evelyn Belt in San Angelo, Texas and they celebrated 27 years of marriage. Evelyn preceded him in death in 1981.
Bob worked for the railroad and in the oil field in earlier years then worked for Kent Elliott Roofing Company from 1966 until his retirement. As a history buff and avid reader he personally knew Elmer Kelton and read every book Elmer wrote. Bob loved sports starting in his high school years playing high school football and basketball for the Mozelle Mustangs where he attended school. He loved watching the Dallas Cowboys, Texas Longhorns, Texas Rangers and San Antonio Spurs, and Pro Bull Riding. Bob loved classic Country music and dancing. He was proud to be a Texan and loved Texas with all his heart.
Survivors include 2 Daughters – Patricia Day and Peggy Day of San Angelo, Texas; Sister – Shirley Penn of Azel, Texas; 2 Brothers – Cecil & wife Peggy Day of Coleman, Texas, Curtis & wife Linda Day of San Angelo, Texas; Grandchildren – Michael Day Waterman & wife Stephanie, Kloey Day & husband Jared; Many nieces and nephews; Special Daughter-in-law – Liz Waterman & husband Gus; His special lady & best friend – Karen Isaacs & her children & grandchildren.
Bob was preceded in death by his wife Evelyn & son Robert Michael Day; Father & Mother Coy & Quincy Day; Brother Kenneth Day; Nephews Barry Day & Randy Rogers; Brothers-in-law Dwight Penn & John Rogers & Harvey Hightower, whom he raised following the death of his mother-in-law; Sisters-in-law Betty Day & Delores Lucas; Daughter-in-law Vanessa Wright.
The family finds comfort in knowing he has entered Heaven’s gate and is reunited with these loved ones.
