BANGS – Coming off their initial victory of the season, the Bangs Dragons were unable to build upon that momentum as the Sonora Broncos moved into sole possession of first place in District 2-3A Division II Friday night with their 50-25 road victory.
Bangs (1-6, 1-2) yielded 428 yards of total offense to Sonora (5-3, 3-0) while the Dragons produced 305 total yards – 235 rushing and 70 passing – with no turnovers.
Guy Powell rushed for 202 yards and a touchdown on 25 carries, while Kade Minshew completed 3 of 16 passes for 70 yards and a pair of touchdowns to Zack Ferguson, who finished with two catches for 68 yards. Minshew also rushed for 10 yards on four carries and scored once, while Powell caught a 2-yard pass. Ian Cortez tacked on 15 rushing yards on five carries and Ethan Ethridge picked on 8 yards on his lone rush.
Defensively for Bangs, Ferguson intercepted a pass and tallied five tackles while other standouts included Powell with 14 tackles and one behind the line of scrimmage; Nate Stoffer with 11.5 tackles and 2 for loss; Keygan Pitts with 5.5 tackles and 2 for loss.
Next week Bangs hosts Ballinger (4-3, 1-2), coming off a 61-0 triumph over Ingram Tom Moore (2-6, 0-3), which the Dragons defeated last week by a 43-21 count.
