EARLY – The Early Lady Horns halted a three-match slump and stayed in the thick of the chase for the fourth and final playoff berth from District 8-3A with a 25-13, 25-21, 25-10 home victory over the Comanche Maidens Tuesday night.
“The girls came out tonight and took care of business,” said Lady Horns head coach Missy Vaughn. “We needed to win this game, but moving forward we’ve got to pick our intensity level up a little bit.”
Early (13-15, 3-5) received 16 kills from Taylor Summers, six from Carrigan Norris, four from Hadalee Saunders and two from Jordan Simmons.
Norris served four aces, Grace LaRue contributed three and Summers and Madison Torrez served one apiece.
Bethany Tomlinson logged 26 assists.
Defensively, Torrez led the way with eight digs followed by LaRue and Saunders with five apiece, Summers with four, Norris, Tomlinson and Mattyson Boswell with two apiece, and Simmons with one.
Simmons tallied the lone block for Early.
“Taylor Summers came out swinging and had a lot of hard hits all the way around, back row, front row, and she did a really good job,” Vaughn said.
The Lady Horns are back in action at noon Saturday as they host Brock.
Vaughn stated for the Lady Horns to continue to make a push toward the playoffs, improvements must come in “communication and intensity level.”
